Barton’s Pauline Bright and Pauline White were drawn against Kempston Hammers players, Janet Hirst and Helen Lovel, and Rena Dutnall and Brenda McDonald, also from Barton, were drawn against Rita Toner and Pat Hills from Bedford Borough in the semi-finals of the County Pairs which were held on Sunday 2nd July at Biggleswade Town Bowls Club.
Many supporters arrived from around Bedfordshire to cheer the ladies on and watch President, Melvyn Wagstaff, hand over Biggleswade’s green to Bowls Bedfordshire Ladies’ President, Marjorie Lenny, who in turn welcomed the ladies and congratulated them all on reaching the semi-finals.
Both games were fiercely contested and although Bedford Borough got away to an early lead Rena and Brenda pegged them back to lose on the 21st end by only one shot. The two Pauline’s’ game was nip and tuck throughout but finally they won the game narrowly 20-18.
Pauline Bright and Pauline White have played together for many years and have represented Bedfordshire at Leamington in the County Rinks, County Triples and Senior Pairs, but this will be the first time that they have represented Bedfordshire in the County Pairs.
